planA Parish Plan is written by the community for the community with support from the Parish Council. The Plan will shape the future of Dilwyn parish so the Parish Plan group need to know what YOU think! It's important that the Plan reflects the views of all parts of the community to outline:

  • what you like
  • what you don't like
  • what you'd like to see in the future

What's it got to do with me?

A Parish Plan is written by the community for the community with support from the Parish Council. The Plan will shape the future of Dilwyn parish so THANK YOU to all who've given views and been involved so far.

What's happened so far

The process started with a public meeting hall last February where people gave ideas and a 'steering' group was established (reporting to the parish council), which has met regularly for over a year now. A 'pub sub-group' was also established last year which did extensive work preparing for the possibility of a community-run pub and was instrumental in getting a facility survey to all households in September. The facility survey asked for views on 3 key village facilities (pub, hall & play area), which required urgent evidence for funding applications. The survey results were published in the Dilwynner and used for the pub business plan and for grant applications for the hall. There were two 'Planning for Real' events in the pub & village hall in early October where people could identify a wide range of issues and ideas by putting flags in large scale maps of the parish.
The latest report on the Planning for Real events held in October highlighted one of the main issues as the community-run pub – obviously this has now become a reality - an exciting development for the village with the potential to link to other aspects raised so far as part of the parish plan process. The village hall committee has also used the survey results to prioritise improvements and used them in grant applications – recently in successfully getting funding to replace the carpets and to continue with the process of obtaining a grant for an insulated roof.

What's next?

The results of the 'Planning for Real' events were discussed at a meeting of the parish plan group in mid-March and further work is being scoped in smaller groups to tease out whether issues raised are 'maintenance' (some of which can be actioned soon such as trimming back shrubs), 'improvements to existing facilities' (e.g. footpaths) or 'new intiatives' (longer-term projects such as a shop in the pub). The feasibility for new intiatives or facilities will need to be investigated before action is taken, including views from the community and experts where appropriate. Further consultation with village organisations and all residents (via a household questionnaire) will be required later this year.

Keep an eye on Latest Items on the website front page for future updates and events.
