2011 Heart of England in Bloom Awards

Village: 301-1,000 Dilwyn in Bloom Silver-Gilt Award

Dilwyn in Bloom Silver-Gilt Award

Judges: Angela Pendleton & Ken Whittaker

The judges were warmly greeted by 'In Bloom' key members Ruth and Julia, Parish Councillors and the wandering Minstral, at the colourful Dilwyn underpass with its pictorial mural. Following a succinct presentation the judges commenced the judging route which included the floral BT Kiosk and the many colourful and vibrant floral displays in and around the residential properties, Karen Court garden, planters and of particular note was the raised memorial herb bed. The three spinning Jennies were a joy to see, ladies all in traditional dress. The judges were shown Begonia barrels planted by the children, containers and baskets of the Crown, where an area of its car park facilitates the central recycling point. Returning to the school grounds, the judges met some of the pupils from Dilwyn School in their vegetable garden all were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The judging completed, everyone enjoyed afternoon tea with the wandering minstral playing in the background - a lovely end to a most enjoyable visit.
