2009 - 2010 What we have done so farIn Dilwyn we have already worked with the local community and improved the Dilwyn Underpass, this work will continue because we want to address the problem of fly tripping, which will increase if this area of the village is not maintained. The Dilwyn Young Farmers did a wonderful job of cutting back all the bushes and trees and we hope you all agree that the underpass has improved. We have also taken over a flower bed at the church and local children planted winter pansies after the family service. This will be maintained during the year and will become a lovely flower bed in time.
Dilwyn in Bloom also put notice in the Dilwynner regarding wild flowers on the green which did create a debate. The article was not clear and maybe this is due to lack of time, what I should have put is that Spring Bulbs would be planted on the green and this did go ahead. Dilwyn in Bloom do not have any intention of turning the green into a wild flower area. The intention is to get people to join in and hopefully make the green look even better in the Spring, apologies for the confusion and I would like to know what your comments are in the Spring. On the day several locals joined us and we planted bulbs around the green and the underpass. The bulb will not effect the grass cutting on the green.
During the last year many people in the Dilwyn area have contributed by making their gardens look lovely for Judging Day and the Judges were very impressed with the effort that had been made. Mrs Boden and her family have also planted flowers under the Dilwyn sign by the main road. Many volunteers in Dilwyn have cut back trees and hedges. We really appreciate the help and support and like to say a big thank you to you all.
We have now got some funding and I would like to hear about any ideas you have for Dilwyn. We have received £550.00 from Herefordshire in Bloom and this is held by the parish council. The parish council have agreed to hold any money raised by us, because of the red tape involved in setting up bank accounts etc. During the Christmas period we raised £100.00 with a Christmas Hamper, which was run from the Crown and I would just like to say a big thank you to Peter , Sarah and staff, for selling the 100 squares. The winning number was 90, won by Ed Turner who is a Dilwyn Young Farmer.
The Hamper was full of items donated by
Tyrrells Crisps, Dunkerton Cider, The Orgasmic Cider Co, The Old School Shop.
A big thank you for the donations.
