Dilwyn in Bloom 2009
Bronze Award
Village Category

Judges Comments:

The judges met with the recently formed Dilwyn in Bloom members at the Mural situated at the Dilwyn underpass. A vibrant, modern mural of the 70's depicting Dilwyn. Renovated by it originator Richard Bartholomew with the children who took part in the 70's returning to assist - fantastic! As the judges walked the litter free streets they noted the work that has been done to improve the street furniture particularly the street signs. The Church of St. Mary's in its elevated position looks over the village lovingly well maintained, with the War Memorial at its entrance. The judges heard of the proactive community watch programme, which has assured a low crime rate in the village. The judges were introduced to Mr Arthur Muffet resident of Karen Court and Dilwyn's oldest citizen at 103 years who greeted us at his stable door! The judging ended at the magnificent Village Green set within a canopy of wonderful mature trees. Dilwyn in Bloom are to be applauded for all their efforts and hard work over the past three months, achieving a credible first entry in the 2009 Heart of England Village category. Their enthusiasm is apparent, as is their love and pride of Dilwyn. The Judges look forward to returning next year to see plans realised. Good luck!
